Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) Program

The Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) Program provides essential, entry‑level training for those beginning a career in early learning. Learners gain foundational knowledge in child development, guidance strategies, health and safety, and inclusive, play‑based environments. Students, through completing the program getting prepared to support certified Early Childhood Educators in daily routines, activity planning, and responsive care. Graduates meet the requirements to apply for ECE Assistant license and can work in licensed childcare centers, preschools, and early learning programs.

One of the requirements to work as an Early Childhood Education Assistant (ECEA) in a licensed childcare facility in BC is to be certified by the ECE Registry. Certification as an ECEA requires successful completion of coursework at a program recognized by the ECE Registry, or successful completion of coursework that is deemed equivalent by the ECE Registry. Kosmetae Academy does not have an Early Childhood Education program that is recognized by the ECE Registry. This means that upon graduation, students will have to apply for certification through the ECE Registry’s equivalency process. For more information about the process visit the ECE Registry website.

 This program includes two courses, taking one of them is a mandate to be eligible for applying to ECE registry:

  1. Child growth and Development
  2. Health, Safety and Nutrition.

 CREDENTIALS

Successful student’s documents will be processed by ECE Registry. Upon completion of the document processing, according to ECER regulations, a license will be issued to the applicant. Kosmetae Academy, according to regulations, is a certification body.

Child growth and Development

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have demonstrated their ability to:

  1. Evaluate how major theoretical perspectives and core principles of child development contribute to understanding children’s growth, behavior, and learning.
  1. Recognize and value individual differences in children’s developmental pathways, abilities, and rates of growth.
  1. Explain holistic child development by identifying the interrelationships among physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and language domains.
  1. Demonstrate respect for diversity, equity, and fairness in all interactions with children, families, and communities.
  1. Analyze how early developmental experiences shape lifelong learning, behavior, and overall, well‑being by integrating knowledge of all developmental domains.

 

Health, Safety and Nutrition

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have demonstrated their ability to:

  1. Identify and describe the key factors, regulations, and standards that ensure the health, safety, and overall, well‑being of young children in early learning environments.
  1. Apply universal precautions, hygiene practices, and safe‑care procedures, including appropriate responses to illness, injury, and other health‑related situations.
  1. Report and document illnesses, injuries, and safety concerns accurately, with an emphasis on preventative practices that reduce risks for children and staff.
  1. Plan and evaluate nutritious, appealing, and culturally responsive snacks and meals that support children’s individual health needs and developmental requirements.
  1. Demonstrate competency in emergency preparedness and communication by outlining appropriate actions for emergencies (e.g., fire, earthquake, contagious illness) and effectively sharing program policies, procedures, and safety information with families, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
